Autumn is the season of change, yet year after year we gravitate to the same familiar trends. It might be your favourite chunky knit jumper or your worn-in loafers, and you can't forget about the faithful vintage trench coat. Whatever it is you reach for, it's always the same. Now, I'm not complaining about this one bit. I love the level of coziness that you can only reach when you're surrounded by the familiar. That's why I put together this little post so you can see the recurring autumn trends and buy investment pieces that will last you year upon year. Whether you find these pieces on Vinted, Depop, eBay, or through the affiliate links I provide in this post, you will have a timeless autumn wardrobe you can depend on every time autumn arrives.

Colour
Let's start with colours. No matter what your personal style is, the easiest way to dress for the season's style is through colour. Even if bright, bold colours aren't your style, you can always add them in small ways that are easily removable or hidden. Accessories such as tights, scarves, gloves, and belts are great items to start with when experimenting with colour. Luckily, even if small pops of colour are too much for you, there are a lot more neutrals that trend during the autumn months than the bold and bright ones. This is mainly because autumn style tends to lean more towards the classic side of things. When we invest in classic items, we want to get as much wear out of them as possible, and the best way to do that is to purchase them in colours we know will go with a lot of things in our wardrobe. It's important to remember that you should add colours to your wardrobe that truly make you happy. Add colours that help you express yourself. I find that the right colour on me really gives my confidence a boost. My last piece of advice for colours this season is to keep your overall wardrobe in mind as well as the trends. This will help keep items in your wardrobe for longer, therefore saving you money, time, and energy.

Print is such a great way to liven up your wardrobe, especially if you are a neutral-loving girly. You don't have to stray from the colors that make you feel good. Again, you will notice that even when it comes to patterns, the autumn season is sticking with the classics. The main core classics are tartan, houndstooth, herringbone, and stripes. You will have no problem finding good quality classic items in these prints year after year.
Then the other two, leopard and snake print. I find that they seem to alternate years in terms of popularity. This is when your own personal taste and style come into play. Invest in what you feel is the best and what works best in your existing wardrobe. I personally feel that both are worth the investment.

Material
When talking about materials for fall, one can't deny that leather is at the forefront. Whether it be traditional calfskin or lush suede, real or vegan leather, fresh off the rack or preloved, leather is always going to be there in all its forms. Leather is such a core material in all our wardrobes. Some of us have a go-to jacket, boots, handbag, or gloves that just make us feel so good when we put them on.

Footwear
Autumn is the season for cozy footwear options. Comfort is the name of the game. My advice is to find a style you love and invest in a good, solid pair or two. They will last you years and therefore save you money long term. So you have my full permission to go out there and drop some cash on good quality comfy footwear. Your wallet and feet will thank me in the long run.
Ps.
All hail the Mary Jane.
Knitwear
Now on to my favorite item of clothing... the knit. Cooler weather means cozy outfits, and the foundation of any good cozy outfit is knitwear. Again, I highly recommend looking on reselling sites to find your perfect knits for this season. All of the knits I've bought this season were found on Vinted. They were all 80-100% wool, and I got them for 50-70% off the RRP. Finding a good quality knit that will look good and actually keep you warm is easier and cheaper than ever. But if second-hand shopping isn't your thing, check out my LTK for new pieces in the shop.
Coats
The finishing touch to any autumn outfit is a good, solid coat. You can't go wrong with having any of the following in your wardrobe: a long-line trench coat, quilted boxy coat, insulated bomber, double-breasted wool coat, or a tried-and-true wax Barbour jacket. These jackets have stood the test of time. They will not only last in your wardrobe, but they will become the centrepiece of many outfits.
Final Thoughts
Remember that these trends come back every year in new variations. Find the variation that works for you and your personal style and invest in it. Look at the tags when purchasing your items. The composition of the fabric is very important. The more natural the fabric, the longer it will last. You also can't forget about care instructions. If you want your items to last you a lifetime, you have to take care of them.
